Pragmata – Best Weapons and Upgrades to Get First

Pragmata is Capcom’s latest action-adventure title, where players take control of Hugh and Diana as they investigate the mysterious lunar station that’s been overrun with hostile robots taken over by a rogue AI. To beat these, Hugh and Diana will come across various resources that allow them to purchase and upgrade their tools, leveling the playing field.

Lim is a resource in Pragmata that’s basically your money/gold, letting you upgrade your weapons and abilities, while Upgrade Points is another resource required that will allow upgrading of Hugh’s HP, his main weapon, and Diana’s hacking ability.

It’s almost impossible to upgrade everything in one playthrough, so with your limited resources, here’s the best weapons and upgrades to get first in Pragmata!

Pragmata – Best Weapons and Upgrades to Get First

Use Upgrade Points to Boost Your Main Weapon Asap

In Pragmata, your Grip Gun is your main weapon, and unlike others, it has unlimited ammunition, as it recharges over time after use. All other weapons, like the Shockwave Gun or the Charge Piercer, have limited ammunition, making the Grip Gun the weapon of choice for whittling down enemies before switching up.

That said, it is in your best interest to upgrade this as much and as soon as possible so that you can always stay a step above the enemies as you journey through the game. This weapon is extremely reliable, and you’ll find yourself using this a lot, so upgrading this first is a priority. You can split the rest of your upgrade points on Diana’s hacking or your Suit HP, but I prefer to improve hacking as I can simply keep my HP topped up by healing.

This is obviously debatable, as some players might prefer HP, but if you can dodge well enough and stay away from danger, upgrading your Grip Gun (or hacking) is the way to go.

Max Out the Shockwave Gun ASAP, Jackhammer Next

Hugh and Diana will come across many weapons, but none of these will be as useful as the first one you get, the Shockwave Gun. The Shockwave Gun is Pragmata’s shotgun and can deal massive amounts of damage up close. You’ll be finding yourself in close quarters a lot of the time, so this is a very trusty tool, especially when you pair it with some status and defensive tools later.

You’ll get the Jackhammer later in the game, and by the time you do, you should have almost maxed out your Shockwave Gun. The Jackhammer is a melee-range weapon, so before you upgrade this, make sure you are confident enough with your dodging skills.

You could also make an argument about Photon Laser, especially if your Overdrive Protocol duration is maxed out, because if the enemies are standing still for a long duration, the Photon Laser will absolutely melt them. The Charge Piercer will be hard to aim especially with moving targets, so just take a preference.

The Decoy Generator is Your Best Friend

Pragmata will often throw swarms of enemies at you. Between hacking, dodging, and choosing tougher targets, you’ll need to know how to juggle between priorities, and nothing will help with this more than the Decoy Generator.

As the name suggests, the Decoy Generator will… well, generate a decoy of Hugh for the enemies to target. The higher the level, the longer the decoy will be up, so upgrading this to max is essential. When paired with the other status weapons like the Stasis Net, you’ll be keeping enemies off your tail for a long time. You can also upgrade the Stasis Net, but I found that with the Decoy Generator alone, it is enough time to kite or eliminate the remaining enemies.

Upgrade Thrusters and Repair Up in Equal Measure

Depending on how good you are at keeping your health topped up, you may want to upgrade Thrusters. Not only will this allow you to glide in the air longer, but on the ground, your Thruster upgrade will determine the number of times that you can boost dodge, so having more of these will save your behind from being hit. Technically, if you don’t get hit, you won’t need to upgrade repair, right?

Deletion Protocol, Hacking Gauge, Critical Shot, Fast Moves

These last 4 upgrades in Pragmata can be taken in any order, but I would suggest upgrading Deletion Protocol (or Overdrive Protocol in the early game) and Hacking Gauge when you can, and then upgrading Critical Hit and Fast Moves in between.

Deletion Protocol is basically your get-out-of-jail ultimate move that can be used when your Hacking Gauge is full, to be used when you are swarmed and have nowhere to go. This special move will incapacitate enemies and open them up, making them vulnerable to shots. This is your signal to go haywire and deal as much damage as you can before they regain their senses.

Hacking Gauge is an upgrade that speeds up filling the gauge, allowing more use of the Deletion Protocol move.

Critical Shot adds a hacking node that doesn’t often appear (and won’t appear with strong enemies), so this is a nice-to-have. Fast moves are also a nice-to-have as they slow down time if you dodge at the last second.

That’s all you need to know about which are the best weapons and upgrades to get first in Pragmata!
