Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok Hands-on Preview

Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok is a major expansion for Granblue Fantasy: Relink that’s designed as a full‑scale follow‑up that builds on the base game’s action RPG systems with new content, characters, and modes.

Ahead of its July 9 launch, we went hands-on with the massive expansion, playing several hours of the game and testing out all of the new features being added to this already big title. The amount of content being added here is quite intimidating, and even with an advanced look during Summer Game Fest 2026, it’s still barely enough to grasp the entire breadth of content.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok Hands-on Preview

Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok marks the next chapter in Cygames’ acclaimed action RPG, expanding both solo and multiplayer experiences. Two years after the base game’s release, the skies of Zegagrande Skydom open once more with new stories, mysterious beings called the “ragnalia,” and the arrival of infamous foes like Beelzebub.

There’s a lot to cover, so let’s check out the biggest features of this expansion.

Master Traits – Changing your Character’s Playstyle

Arguably the biggest addition that provides ways of changing up gameplay, Master Traits are basically unlocks for each of the characters that give them more ways to approach combat. Once a character has reached level 100, players must spend MSP to raise a character’s master level, unlocking 3 styles (Insight, Essence, and Crux) to further boost their capabilities and offer options to augment their approach to combat.

As an example, Gran can choose between 3 styles that each have perks: Insight: Artfully Adept, Essence: Combat Healer, and Crux: The Substitute. Insight: Artfully Adept has a Style Rank Perk that boosts ATK by 10-20% and combo finisher DMG cap by 5-20% based on adept arts level. Essence: Combat Healer’s style rank perk has Gran gaining ATK+10% and DMG Cap +20% upon casting a healing skill.

Furthermore, each of these styles can be leveled up to open up more traits that the character can equip. As another example, Gran’s Insight: Artfully Adept style has traits such as Skill Cooldown -2% and Max HP +15000, among others. The higher the level of a style, the more master traits can be equipped, and these can be unequipped freely for player experimentation. Equipping a certain number of these traits can activate the aforementioned Style Rank Perk, providing a lasting effect as long as conditions are met.

As you can imagine, the addition of Master Traits in Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok opens up a ton of gameplay possibilities per character. The example above is just for Gran; other characters like Katalina and Rackam each have their own master traits to unlock, boosting specific playstyles. And when you consider having 4 characters during battles, each with their specific master traits, the min-maxing possibilities are almost as endless as… well, Endless Ragnarok.

Summons – A New Game Companion

Summons introduces a fresh layer of strategy to Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok. Each character can equip summons that become available in the expansion, with summons earned as quest rewards. These summons are tiered (Rare, Epic, etc), have elements (Wind, Water, etc), and range from damage-dealing attacks to support capabilities like providing healing potions and shields.

Similar to Skybound Arts, they require chaining attacks to build charge in the summon gauge, which can then be spent on different summons depending on their cost. Players can choose from a pool of summons and can equip 4 summons in solo play, while co‑op limits each player to one, with the gauge shared across the team, allowing lower‑cost summons to reduce the burden for teammates and enabling powerful chain summons.

When activated, summons temporarily replace the player character, becoming invulnerable to damage and offering tactical opportunities to bypass boss attack patterns. A fully charged gauge also opens the chance for summons to join in during a Full Burst, amplifying damage output and creating dramatic, high‑impact moments in battle.

Conflux Dungeons

One of the most intriguing additions in Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok is the Conflux Dungeons, a single-player mode designed for players to grind materials to develop their weapons, farm EXP, and serve as a fun training ground to master their characters.

Each Conflux run lasts about 15-20 minutes, and players can either progress through tougher stages that grant more rewards and experience or take an easier path. The ideal loop for players is to run Conflux Dungeons, gather loot and resources, boost their characters, and then return to co-op mode to take on tougher challenges.

It’s a great way to progress without being heavily dependent on co-op missions, and since the game has been rebalanced in this expansion, players can progress easily and on their own time.

Other Improvements

The additions don’t stop there, as Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok also rebalances the base Relink content to make progression smoother for new and returning characters. One addition is the Backup Characters system, allowing players to borrow developed characters from others, maybe a super-strong character, that can assist with clearing content.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok also signals the arrival of crossplay being available across all platforms, including the much-anticipated release on the Switch 2, which also accommodates local wireless multiplayer. Why it didn’t launch with crossplay is quite the puzzle, but we’re hopeful that the prospect of taking on Lilith and other bosses with players from other platforms is enough to get one excited.

Overall, Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok is shaping up to be quite the expansion. The new features aren’t mere add-ons, as things like the Master Traits affect the playstyles of all characters, and the inclusion of a vast number of summons is icing on top of an already packed cake. Whether it will revitalize the playerbase remains to be seen, but the amount of content incoming is nothing to scoff at and should excite players looking forward to more adventures in the world.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok will release worldwide on July 9, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, PS4, and Steam.
