KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS has unveiled new details and a teaser for DEATH STRANDING ISOLATIONS, the upcoming animated series based on the world of Death Stranding. The announcement was made during the studio’s 10th anniversary celebration event, BEYOND THE STRAND: The Odyssey of Creation and Endeavor, held at Azabudai Hills Gallery in Tokyo.

Scheduled to stream exclusively on Disney+ and other Disney services in 2027, the series expands the Death Stranding universe with an original story separate from the events of the games while retaining the franchise’s signature themes of connection, isolation, and humanity’s struggle to rebuild a fractured world.

Death Stranding Isolations – A New Story Set After Death Stranding

Unlike the games, DEATH STRANDING ISOLATIONS follows a completely new cast of characters.

The story centers on a young girl who has spent much of her life in isolation following the Death Stranding, the catastrophic event that forever altered the world. Forced into solitude at an early age, she gradually embraces life alone and distances herself from meaningful human relationships.

However, fate has other plans.

Set shortly after Sam Porter Bridges reconnects North America through the Chiral Network, the series explores the unforeseen consequences of a newly connected society. As the continent begins rebuilding itself, new conflicts and perspectives emerge from individuals whose lives have been shaped differently by the cataclysm.

Alongside the young protagonist, viewers will encounter an eclectic cast that includes a wise elder who forms connections through unconventional means, a soldier trapped in a cycle of conflict and destruction, and a boy struggling against the harsh realities of his world.

Hand-Drawn Animation Brings the World to Life

The series is being produced using traditional hand-drawn 2D animation, with acclaimed Japanese animation studio E&H production leading development.

Known for projects such as NINJA KAMUI, BULLET/BULLET, and the Magic Knight Rayearth television series, the studio is working closely with director Takayuki Sano to bring Hideo Kojima’s universe to an entirely new medium.

According to Sano, adapting the world of Death Stranding came with significant responsibility due to the impact Kojima’s works have had on audiences over the years.

“One of the unique abilities of entertainment is its power to enhance the spirituality of those who consume it, and I think this is something that Mr. Kojima’s works have always achieved. As a result, I approached this production with an exceptionally strong sense of duty and responsibility. I knew that no matter what, I needed to accomplish the same thing.”

Tow Ubukata Joins the Death Stranding Isolations Project

KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS also confirmed that acclaimed author Tow Ubukata will serve as the series’ Series Composition & Screenplay writer.
