CD Projekt Red releases apology for Cyberpunk 2077 mess, reveals 2021 roadmap
After the huge mess that was the Cyberpunk 2077 launch, we finally hear from them directly to clear up a lot of the issues. Whether or not the apology was sufficient or tackles the real issue is a different issue altogether.
In a huge announcement that was posted across various social media sites like Twitter and even a lengthy Q&A on their website, co-founder Marcin Iwiński fully apologized for the fiasco and has presented a roadmap for future updates. One of the statements made was Iwiński saying not to “fault any of our teams for what happened” and that “it was our [Iwiński and the board] call to release the game”, basically owning up to the whole mess. On the website, they also mentioned that “The team is working to bring relevant fixes to the game without any obligatory overtime. Avoiding crunch on all of our future projects is one of our top priorities.”
Iwiński also continued to clarify the review situation for consoles, saying that “we were fighting for quality on old-gen consoles till the very last moment… This is why we started sending console review keys on the 8th of December, which was later than we originally planned.”
More importantly, Iwiński shared a roadmap for Cyberpunk 2077 this year, highlighting improvements and the next-gen upgrade for the PS5 and Xbox Series.
As you can see, all hotfixes throughout the remainder of 2020 have been addressed, and the bigger Patch 1.1 will come in the next couple of weeks, while 1.2 will arrive a few more weeks after that. Throughout the year, multiple updates will also be implemented but also along with that, the Free DLC’s and the next-gen console upgrade coming later in the year.
Cyberpunk 2077 will only get better from here, and it looks like CDPR is fully committed to regaining back the trust of the community. Our review of the game calls it “too big to fail”, recommending players to wait for the game to improve before playing it, as there is a semblance of a very good game underneath all the mess.
Cyberpunk 2077 is now available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, PC, and Stadia.
