Gamescom 2020 will indeed be biting the dust similar to E3 and other social gatherings due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the official Gamescom Twitter account has announced.

It isn’t until August but the far reaching effects of the pandemic has forced the organizers hand into unfortunately cancelling the event as a whole. Taking its place, however, is a digital event that has also been confirmed by Geoff Keighley, which is scheduled to take place on August 24.

While Gamescom will be having a digital event, E3 on the other hand will not, opting to help individual publishers and developers instead.

Meanwhile, IGN have announced their own “Summer of Gaming” event scheduled for June.
