2021 Game Of The Year ‘It Takes Two’ To Get Film And TV Adaptations

Video game adaptations have been hit or miss for a while now, with only a handful making a successful transition to other screens. This time around, 2021’s Game of the Year from Hazelight Studios, It Takes Two, will be making the jump.

This comes from an exclusive report by Variety, saying that Hazelight has partnered up with dj2 Entertainment to adapt the game for film and tv. dj2 Entertainment is known for its work on the Sonic the Hedgehog films, the Tomb Raider Netflix anime, and is currently busy with a Disco Elysium show and a Sleeping Dogs film.

At the moment, there is no studio or network yet for the adaptations but according to Variety, a multi-party bidding war is ongoing for the project. Additionally, Sonic the Hedgehog movie writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller are on board for the film adaptation.

Hazelight founder and creative director Josef Fares shares that “Creating the world and story in ‘It Takes Two’ was so much fun for me and the team. Since it has a strong narrative with many crazy characters and just as crazy co-op action moments, the potential is huge for a great adaption to film or television.”

dj2 CEO and founder Dmitri M. Johnson also says “dj2 is honored to partner with Josef, Oskar [Wolontis], and the incredible team at Hazelight Studios on the linear media adaptation of ‘It Takes Two. Just like the rest of the gaming world, we fell head-over-heels in love with Cody, May, Rose, Dr. Hakim and the imaginative fantasy universe Hazelight have created, and can’t wait to bring these characters -and this world- to life on the big and small screen.”

It Takes Two tells the story of a couple that’s soon to divorce, Cody and May. They’ve hit a rough patch in their relationship, and for them, going their own separate ways is the only solution. Their daughter, caught in the middle of this mess, wishes for a miracle and in turn, transforms Cody and May into dolls that will have to find their way back and restore their relationship.

Are you looking forward to this when it comes out?
