Quite pricey.

First revealed last month during a huge Nintendo Direct that saw some blockbuster announcements, the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack will see the addition of select Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis games to add more value to the subscription. The price was not revealed back then but after the recently concluded Animal Crossing direct, we now know how much the expansion pack will cost.

The Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack will set you back for $49.99 (around PHP2,500) for a 12-month individual subscription while a family subscription will go for $79.99 (around PHP4,000). For an expanding library of N64 and Sega Genesis titles, that seems quite pricey. As a consolation though, the latest Animal Crossing Happy Home Paradise expansion will be included as well.

For comparison, an annual individual Nintendo Switch Online membership without the expansion pack is $19.99, a $30 difference. An annual family membership jumps from $34.99 all the way up to $79.99, a $45 difference. If you’re already subscribed, you can upgrade to the expansion pack tier for a discount, and the price will be determined depending on how much time you have left on your subscription.

Depending on the frequency and quality of the titles being added, it may be worth it for some, but you can’t deny that the pricing is going to be quite the hot topic in the community.
