Xbox boss feels good after PS5 reveal, says they are in a ‘very good position’
The PlayStation 5 reveal event had a little bit of everything – the hardware reveal, tons of new games, and a whole lot of hype. The reveal was good, enough that Xbox boss Phil Spencer sent a note of congratulations to Sony after the event.
As reported by VGC, Spencer points out that “As a competitor it’s great to have them out there now so we kind of know what the programme is, we see the device, we see the games,” but at the same time, he is fully confident that the Series X and the strategy that they have built over the years is strong enough.
Spencer opened up on his thoughts about the PS5 during a GameLab conference, and in summary, says that he feels pretty good about the position that they have put themselves in going into the next generation:
“Just being honest, I felt good after seeing their show. I think the hardware advantages that we have built are going to show up as we’re talking more about our games and frame rates and other things.
I thought the games line-up that we’re going to have at launch I felt really good about, and we got more clarity on what they’re doing at their show which just helped us focus in on more of what we have, and I think that will be a strength for us at launch.
So I thought they did a good job, I thought they do what they do very well and they did that, but when I think about the position that we’re in, with the games that we’re going to be able to show and how they’re going to show up, and the hardware advantage that we have, I think we’re in a very good position.”
Microsoft is readying themselves for July as their next presentation is going to be a big one. Following a lackluster showing during their first 20/20 show, where they were heavily criticized for not showing enough “gameplay”, the Series X will need to bounce back and it seems very ready to do so. Their next presentation is said to show their first party content, which will include Halo Infinite, and we can be sure that Phil Spencer and the rest of the team will be preparing something that will blow everyone away.
Sony impressed the last time, now it is Microsoft’s turn to show that they can indeed walk the walk and talk the talk.
