Microsoft discontinues production of the Xbox One X and the Xbox One S Digital Edition

Ahead of the launch of the Series X later this year, Microsoft is discontinuing the production of both the Xbox One X and the Xbox One S Digital edition.

The Verge reports this, after a company spokesperson communicated the news, saying “As we ramp into the future with Xbox Series X, we’re taking the natural step of stopping production on Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition. The standard Xbox One S, on the other hand, will continue production and sales globally.

While production has stopped, it would be best to check with retailers for stock should one choose to purchase the discontinued systems, maybe eventually at a lower price point.

We can only speculate why this happened, as it seems rather early, especially since the Series X has not even been launched yet.

It would also seem awfully weird to do this since Microsoft has spoken out on the Series X not having next gen exclusives early on, prompting the discussion that you may not actually need to get a Series X right away but maybe opt for a cheaper One X instead.

If anything, Microsoft has a plan for the next generation and with Phil Spencer steering the ship, there’s no way that this doesn’t mean something for the Series X down the line, whatever it may be.
