In a statement by Sony to GamesIndustry.biz, Sony denies the production cut rumors, saying that production numbers have not changed.

“While we do not release details related to manufacturing, the information provided by Bloomberg is false, we have not changed the production number for PlayStation 5 since the start of mass production.”

No production numbers have been stated, but its good to know that there are no issues regarding PlayStation 5 production so the players who want one will be able to get one.

Reports show that Sony has made some changes to its production estimates for March 31, 2021. Initially targeting 15 million PlayStation 5 units by Q1 next year, Bloomberg is now reporting that Sony will be slashing production down to 11 million units, 4 million less than initially predicted due to SoC or system on a chip related issues.

According to people familiar with the situation, manufacturing issues have been encountered, leading to “production yields as low as 50% for its SOC, which have cut into its ability to produce as many consoles as it wishes”

This could be a big blow for people wishing to get a PlayStation 5 when it releases later this year, as stocks may not be as healthy as it could have been.

In the same report, Bloomberg intelligence analyst Masahiro Wakasugi says that “The full PS5 console may be priced as low as $449 while the slimmer digital-only version may dip below $400”

Sony has not yet officially revealed the pricing and pre-order details for the PS5 but it is widely believed that their upcoming showcase scheduled on September 16 (September 17 4AM in the Philippines) will not only be about game updates, but will also contain the final details that players have been waiting for.
