EA reportedly deciding on the fate of Anthem this week
Anthem was, at one point, one of the most anticipated games of 2019. Flying mech suits, looter shooter… it had almost all the makings of a great title, until it wasn’t. Post launch, a small team was formed to try and overhaul Anthem due to the dismal scores from not only critics but from users as well, but it seems that this could end up in the back burner.
A report coming from Bloomberg and Jason Schreier says that according to “three people familiar with the matter”, EA execs will review and finally decide whether to push through with the overhaul or just scrap the project altogether. For a game that once had so much potential, it is quite sad to see it possibly come to this.
Continuing with the overhaul, dubbed as “Anthem Next”, will require serious resources and manpower, about triple the current size of the team, to “produce new content and continue attempting to overhaul the game,” but it looks like EA is unsure on whether to commit to it or not. The call reportedly due this week will decide on that.
Redemption stories aren’t unheard of in the industry, just look at No Man’s Sky and Final Fantasy XIV, with the latest story (still a work in progress) being about Cyberpunk 2077. Fans of Anthem looking forward to the overhaul will want to tune in later this week to find out the fate of their beloved game.
