Sony wants to bring its most popular PlayStation franchises to mobile

Based on a recent job listing, it would seem that Sony wants a part of the mobile gaming market as a new opening has been spotted for a “Head of Mobile” role for PlayStation Studios, which will be adapting some of their biggest and most popular franchises into mobile.

As seen on the listing, the Head of Mobile role will “own and develop the mobile games strategy for PlayStation Studios and help build a foundation for future growth opportunities. You will lead all aspects of the expansion of our game development from consoles and PCs to mobile & Live Services with a focus on successfully adapting PlayStation’s most popular franchises for mobile. You will be responsible for building and scaling a team of mobile leaders and will serve as the Head of this new business unit within PlayStation Studios.”

The role suggests an expansion for Sony to bite into the mobile gaming pie with a long-term strategy that will allow them to reach a wider audience, with “wider” meaning almost everybody with a smartphone.

Some of the franchises that come to mind that would make for a good transition into mobile would be Gran Turismo and the likes of God of War and The Last of Us, which is reportedly getting a remake for the PS5.

It remains to be seen how this strategy will bear fruit for Sony, as capturing the feel of these games as they’re translated into mobile would prove to be a tremendous feat in itself.

Ghost of Tsushima fruit ninja, anyone?
