Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty Lights Up Magic: The Gathering Later This Month

Wizards of the Coast has announced that Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty, the newest Magic: The Gathering set, will see its long-awaited release on February 18, 2022, transforming the feudal Japan-inspired setting into a bright, futuristic neonscape.

Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty New Cards and Abilities

Neon Dynasty is set 1,200 years after the events of the original Kamigawa story and it merges old with new by transforming returning mechanics along with introducing brand-new abilities such as Reconfigure, which imbues creatures with the ability to equip themselves to other creatures and confer new bonuses.

Familiar cards and abilities return, such as Double-faced cards, which will be key to changing the tides of battle, and Channel, which allows players to discard a card with the ability to get a temporary effect. Ninjutsu also makes a return, allowing Ninja creatures to slip past an opponent’s defenses.

MTG veterans will also see the return of the five legendary Spirit Dragons of Kamigawa, along with Samurai and Ninja creatures with various new iterations.

We get to see some of the upcoming cards here, such as the “Ukiyo-e” basic lands that get two different woodblock art per land. Adorning the other cards are the Ninja and Samurai showcase frames, styling these specific creature types with elegant and futuristic borders.

Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty will also feature special collaborations with various Japanese Artists such as Hara Tetsuo (Fist of the North Star), Yoji Shinkawa (Metal Gear Solid), and many more.

Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty launches on February 18, 2022 and will be available in regular Draft Boosters, Theme Boosters, Collector Boosters, Set Boosters, as well as the Neon Dynasty Bundle and two Commander decks.
