PlayStation May Reportedly Reveal ‘Spartacus’ Service As Early As Next Week
Back in December of 2021, there were rumblings of PlayStation planning to merge PS Now and PS Plus into one service that is currently codenamed as “Spartacus”, Sony’s apparent answer to the highly-popular Xbox Game Pass. If recent reports are to be believed, then a reveal might happen very soon.
The news comes from Jason Schreier and Takashi Mochizuki of Bloomberg, saying that PlayStation is looking to finally introduce the new service as early as next week, according to people familiar with the plans. The Spartacus reveal is looking to include a “splashy lineup of hit games from recent years” and will indeed combine PS Now and PS Plus, offering multiple tiers.
It is believed that the first tier will basically be the regular PS Plus subscription, while the second tier will include access to PS4 and PS5 titles. The third and most expensive tier, based on documents obtained by Bloomberg last year, will give players access to “extended demos” and game-streaming capabilities, along with a catalog of PS1, PS2, and PS3 games among others.
Considering that this is touted to be a competitor to Game Pass, it would be interesting to see how Sony will handle the one thing that sets Game Pass apart – day one first-party offerings. It would be hard to imagine PlayStation doing the same thing, but we’ll have to wait and see.
There are still many questions left unanswered here, especially in regions where PS Now isn’t fully supported yet like the Philippines. How will this work? Will this new subscription service from PlayStation be available to all account holders regardless of region?

Only time will tell, for now, and if the report holds true, then we could be in for a nice surprise next week.
