It’s easy to forget that after the release of some bangers like Horizon Forbidden West and Elden Ring that there’s still the rest of the year to get through and along with it, some highly-anticipated new games.
Despite some high-profile delays like Starfield and Redfall being pushed to next year, 2022 is still a great year with a lot of new games to look out for. With the upcoming “Not E3” season headlined by Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest alongside the PlayStation State of Play and the Xbox Bethesda Showcase, we’re sure to get our fill of announcements and updates that will leave us wanting more.
With so much more coming out in the next 6 months, here are some of our top picks for new games coming out this year!
New Games Still Coming in 2022
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (July 29, 2022)
Definitely one of the biggest surprises, bumping up its release date to July instead of September. Prepare your Nintendo Switch for hours upon hours of quests and side quests while relishing its unique battle system.
Saints Row (August 23, 2022)
This reboot of Saints Row is slated for an August release and is coming out just before the -Ber months, offering players its trademark wacky gameplay with customization features that are off the charts.
Splatoon 3 (September 10, 2022)
Quite possibly the reason why Xenoblade was moved up to July, Splatoon 3 will make a splash come September. 2022 is big for Nintendo, and there may be more in store as the year comes to a close.
Forspoken (October 11, 2022)
Formerly known as Project Athia, this PS5 Square Enix console exclusive takes players on a journey in the shoes of Frey Holland as she finds herself lost in a strange land where she is adept in its mystical properties.
Gotham Knights (October 25, 2022)
This much-anticipated title from WB Games Montreal finally finds its way to an October launch. Join Nightwing, Robin, Red Hood, and Batgirl as they go up against the elusive Court of Owls.
2022 or 2032?
While many of these other games below could still launch in 2022, not hearing any release date from the devs makes the situation quite uneasy. We’re hoping that the showcases from the publishers shed more light into these new games!
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Heart of Chernobyl (TBA)
The ongoing war in Ukraine is putting a heavy toll on everybody, including the developers in the affected regions. While we’re hoping to see this title come out this year, we’d also like to wish the developers to stay safe during this difficult time.
God of War: Ragnarok (TBA)
Yes, they did say 2022, but can you blame us for thinking otherwise? With Microsoft looking rather empty on the first-party offerings for 2022, we’ll see if the upcoming PlayStation State of Play will show a release date for Kratos and Atreus that can take advantage of the void.
A Plague Tale: Requiem (TBA)
Announced last year for a 2022 release, the devs have been eerily quiet about the game for a while now, and we’re hoping to find out more about it during some of the showcases scheduled in June.
Bayonetta 3 (TBA)
Nintendo has a packed 2022 lineup of new games, but it can be even better if this title somehow manages to make it out this year. Maybe we’ll hear about it on another Nintendo Direct?
Final Fantasy XVI (TBA)
It will come out this year. Yoshi-P will make it happen… Please?
