Gran Turismo Movie Adaptation Gets 2023 Release Date, Will be Based on True Story
Just last month, it was revealed that Gran Turismo, along with God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn, will be getting screen adaptations. New details have emerged, and based on a report from Deadline, the movie adaptation for Gran Turismo is scheduled for an August 11, 2023 release and will be based on a true story.
Directed by Neill Blomkamp (District 9) and written by Jason Hall, the film has the following description, which basically sounds like GT Academy – “the film is the ultimate wish-fulfillment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional race car driver.”
Based on the description, it doesn’t seem to be in the vein of other “racing” films like Fast and the Furious but will be more in line with more story-based affairs like 2021’s Rush.
Joining as producers are Doug Belgrad, Dana Brunetti, and PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan.
