NBA 2K23’s MyNBA Mode Lets Players Explore Endless Possibilities
2K and Visual Concepts have published a new courtside report detailing the improvements made to the upcoming MyNBA mode for NBA 2K23’s PS5 and Xbox Series versions.
MyNBA is looking extra special this year, with the developers even touting this release as a “banner year” for the feature, as it looks to explore the “What if’s” of the league over the years.
Players have always had discussions about various scenarios – What if the Houston Rockets drafted Michael Jordan over Hakeem Olajuwon back in 1984? What if Kobe and Shaq stuck it out in Los Angeles? What if KD goes back to Golden State?
In NBA 2K23’s MyNBA mode, players will no longer have to imagine.
MyNBA in NBA 2K23 will have 4 eras where players will be able to experience various changes in settings, play style, rosters, and much more.
Players familiar with the usual MyNBA experience will feel right at home with the Modern Era, but there will be 3 other eras to choose from, each with its trademark rosters, rivalries, and what if’s to answer – The Magic vs Bird Era, Jordan Era, and Kobe Era.
The Magic vs Bird era will put you right in the thick of the Lakers and Celtics rivalry starting in 1983, accounting for 65% of the teams in the finals in the 80s, making for fantastic basketball history. Featuring players like Isiah Thomas, George Gervin, Julius Erving, and much more, players can turn history over its head and change the way the NBA played out throughout the years.
The Jordan era starts in 1991, where his dominant run with the Chicago Bulls is put to the test against the duo of Stockton and Malone, Hakeem’s Rockets, and Ewing’s Knicks. Players will get the opportunity to pair Jordan with one of the most dominant big men in the 1992 draft, Shaquille O’Neal, once again changing the course of history.
The last era, the Kobe era, takes us back to 2002 when a new breed of talent is taking over the NBA. The likes of Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, and Dirk Nowitzki will be highlights, but the tandem to beat is still Kobe and Shaq.
As you’ll notice with each of the eras in NBA 2K23’s MyNBA, players are placed in years with generational talents during the next draft. During the Kobe era, players will have to navigate their way towards one of the greatest draft classes in history, with the likes of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, and Chris Bosh.
NBA 2K23’s MyNBA Eras holds accuracy in high regard, and players will be able to see and feel the difference from the courts to the uniforms, and even the presentation and commentary. All of these small details will be accurate to the era, ensuring a level of immersion that could be the deepest one yet for NBA 2K23.
In particular, these eras will have a specific filter system to show the appropriate look similar to how broadcasts were made from the 80s to the 2000s. The commentary from Mike Fratello, Greg Anthony, Kevin Harlan, and Clark Kellogg will also feature a colossal bank of audio to keep the gameplay fresh.
NBA 2K23’s MyNBA mode is packed with small details to make this year’s version the most accurate and most immersive it’s ever been, creating a mode that was made by basketball fans for basketball fans. You can check out all of the updates HERE.
NBA 2K23 will be available on September 9, 2022 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
