New Mafia Game in Development, Original Mafia Free on Steam for a Limited Time
2K and Hangar 13 have announced that a new Mafia game is in development, but details are scarce at the moment.
The announcement came from a 20th anniversary developer interview, where general manager Roman Hladik himself confirmed that an all-new project is in development when asked what’s next for the series.
“I’m happy to confirm we’ve started work on an all-new Mafia project! While it’s a few years away and we can’t share anything more right now, we’re really excited to keep working on this beloved franchise and to entertain our players with new stories.”
The new game is rumored to be a prequel according to a report from Kotaku back in May 2022, said to be developed using Unreal Engine 5.
The latest entries in the series were the definitive editions of Mafia II, III, and a remake of the first game, which was the best release among the three.
In related news, the original Mafia game will be free on Steam from September 1–5 as part of the 20th anniversary celebration of the series.
