Riot Games Shifting Wild Rift Esports Focus to Asia in 2023
Riot Games has announced that it is shifting its League of Legends: Wild Rift esports focus to Asia starting in 2023.
President of Riot Games esports John Needham shared that they will be centralizing the operations of Wild Rift Esports in Asia, what they called the “biggest and most active mobile esports market in the world.” As such, this League in Asia is set to become the “first Riot cross-regional professional mobile esports league.”
This means that the new league ecosystem will consist of twelve teams from China’s WRL and eight teams from the other 2022 Asian regions. The season will be structured as two splits each year and will focus on showcasing the best talent from the most competitive regions in our sport.
Outside of Asia, Wild Rift esports leagues will no longer be handled by Riot Games and will be giving this opportunity to third parties.
