Let’s Unbox the Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion ‘Hero Edition’

15 years after it was first released for the PSP in Japan back in 2007, the whole world can now finally relive the adventures of Zack in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion. Being the prequel to Final Fantasy VII, the events of Crisis Core give players more backstory to the story of Cloud and the gang.

We’re treated to a “Hero Edition” for this Crisis Core release, and for fans of the game and the series, this was indeed an edition that was an automatic buy, despite the price. While it was originally slated to be a Japan-exclusive release, local retailers in the Philippines were able to provide customers with stock that, as you can imagine, was immediately sold out.

Here’s what you’re getting:

  • Base game
  • Script Book
  • Play Arts Kai Zack Fair Action Figure
  • HEROES Past and Present The Art of Crisis Core Original Art Book
  • Mini Soundtrack CD
  • Aerith’s Letter

The local price wound up being PHP18,495, very pricey when you consider similar editions in the price range. When considering the contents, the price certainly sticks out like a sore thumb. Is it worth it? Probably, for huge fans of the series. More casual collectors will immediately be turned away by the price, especially when it is around PHP5,000-PHP8,000 more than the usual CEs from other titles.

Without further ado, let’s unbox the Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion ‘Hero Edition’!

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion ‘Hero Edition’

First off, we have the outer box, draped in a mostly black sleeve with the Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion logo smack dab in the middle.

Upon slipping out the sleeve, we get what is probably the most disappointing part of the package – a plain cardboard brown box. You would think that after spending a small fortune on it, we would get some fine art similar to the Tales of Arise Collectors Edition, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth.

It’s literally a plain brown box.

Upon opening the box, we get the base game. Sorry folks, no steelbook included. Very disappointing.

Once you lift up the first layer of cardboard packaging, you’ll get greeted with the Play Arts Kai figure. We’ll get to that later, so we’ll take a look at the bottom part of the package, which houses the “sealed” letter case.

Upon opening the sealed box, we get to see the mini soundtrack, the hardcover artbook, Aerith’s letter, and the Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion Script book. Unfortunately, the contents of both the script book and letter are in Japanese, so you’ll need to translate it to understand the contents.

    Hello Chris,

Isn’t the Hero version exclusive to Japan, only? Yet, I see ‘Korean’ version of this edition on eBay? I want to buy this version, but would buying the Korean version be not as good? I am little confused. And yes, I think it’s a little poor that you don’t get a steel book included in the Hero edition!

    Thanks!

      Hello, Satz!

As far as I know (I could be wrong!), it is a Japan exclusive but, maybe similar to our local retailers in the Philippines, Korea was able to import some as well. I’ll be honest, I don’t know what the difference is, so I can’t tell you which is better. As long as it isn’t a counterfeit item, you should be just fine!

Sadly, no steelbook, which was really what I was after! The “collectors editions without steelbooks” trend is gaining traction and I don’t like it one bit. >:(
