Let’s Unbox the Spiritfarer Collector’s Edition
Spiritfarer is an indie management sim and sandbox action game developed by ThunderLotus where you play as the newly ordained ferry master for the deceased. It’s quite the concept, and this is one of those few games that dare to explore themes and relationships rarely contemplated in video games. What makes it more special is that it is also a highly-rated game across various sites like Nintendo Life and Eurogamer!
It was around May 27, 2021, when iam8bit announced that they will be releasing an exclusive Collector’s Edition of the game. As a collector, I had to get one for myself!
It took a while, but we finally got it early this year! Here’s everything included in the Spiritfarer Collector’s Edition:
- Base Game
- Fully functional Everlight Replica
- Constellation Lantern Display Box
- Collectible postcard and sticker stamp set
- Digital Download of the Spiritfarer soundtrack
- Digital Download of 96-page Spiritfarer art book
- Features exclusive, reversible cover art by Aidan Yetman-Michaelson
Curious to see the contents? Come along as we unbox the Spiritfarer Collector’s Edition!
Spiritfarer Collector’s Edition
First is the big box from iam8bit. Nothing special, brown box, but I always like it when companies ship in a nice and secure box. It may not look like it, but the contents are safe and sound!
Next, we have this nicely designed octagon box adorned with constellations and other heavenly bodies. Do you notice the small holes? They’re not damaged, but they actually serve a purpose! We’ll get to it later.
Opening the Spiritfarer Collector’s Edition shows a beautiful gold-accented interior with the contents held firmly in place by a transparent band that keeps everything secure. You can even pull out the inner container for easy access to the contents. Nice touch!
Here’s a quick look at the full spread.
The Spiritfarer Collector’s Edition includes 7 postcards, and six of them highlight the various locations from the game. The stamps, on the other hand, introduce the characters that you’ll meet throughout your journey.
One of the postcards is described as a “personal quest” where players can write something for their deceased loved ones and mail it back to iam8bit. Pretty nice touch, and very in-theme with the game!
Of course, the Spiritfarer Collector’s Edition comes with the base game, except that it is quite special. This edition includes the exclusive reversible art cover illustrated by Aidan Yetman-Michaelson, and it is quite lovely.
Sadly, there is no physical art book or ost included, which is something I always look forward to when acquiring these special editions, but the iam8bit team did include a digital voucher to claim and download both the digital ost and artbook from their site.
Finally, the literal star of the show – the Everlight replica.
Remember when I asked if you noticed the holes in the box? If you remove the blue base, the box transforms into a display case that will resemble the night sky. Pretty amazing!
While I wished that the light was a bit more powerful, it feels cozy as it is, so it works just as well. You’ll need 3 AAA batteries if you’re planning to use it!
The Spiritfarer Collector’s Edition is available on the iam8bit website for the PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
