Baldur’s Gate 3 Enjoys Phenomenal Launch Numbers, Peaks at Over 800k Players
Baldur’s Gate 3, the latest RPG to come out from the wizards at Larian Studios, is enjoying a phenomenal launch window, hitting a peak player count that’s placed it among the top games ever on Steam.
The company wasn’t actually expecting it.
CEO and Creative Director of Larian Studios Swen Vincke revealed that he apparently told the development team of the game to expect “like 100k or so at max” players when it launched. Little did the developers know that an overwhelming outpouring of support for the game was in the works.
Baldur’s Gate 3’s numbers skyrocketed to 500,000 a day after launch, and now hitting a peak of 814,666 players, placing it in 9th place of the top 10 most played games and just behind titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy, and Elden Ring.
Considering the game is only currently playable on PC, we expect more records to be broken as it finally launches for PS5 in September and Xbox Series sometime next year. At the moment, it is also the top spot in the best-selling pre-orders on PSN.
It’s also refreshing to see that studios still value a full experience, and as pointed out by an FAQ on their official website, there are no in-game purchases because they “believe in providing a complete and immersive gaming experience without the need for additional purchases.” Enjoy the game to its fullest without any additional costs or microtransactions.”
Baldur’s Gate 3 is now available for PC, and will launch for PS5 on September 6 and Xbox Series in 2024.
