The OMG Review
Our review format is not your usual fare and we’ve broken it down into 3 very simple ratings!

“Buy it!” means that the game deserves a place in your collection. Be it day 1 or a slightly delayed purchase, it’s hard to go wrong with this title. In numbers, this is around an 8/10 and above.

“Wait for it…” means that while the game is good, it probably isn’t worth it at its day 1 price point. We suggest you wait for a sale before jumping in. In numbers, this is around a 5 – 7/10.

“Ignore it!” means that the game is not something we’d recommend playing, whether it be now or in the near future. Maybe ever. Let’s not even go to the numbers for this one.

It’s been a long while since we got a Gundam Breaker game, and the fact that Gundam Breaker 3 did not receive a worldwide release made the wait a bit more excruciating. Enter Gundam Breaker 4, the latest title to come out that’s not only localized but also more widely available, finally treating series fans who have been waiting a long time.

Following the fan-favorite story of Gundam Breaker 3, Gundam Breaker 4 moves forward with players taking on the role of a Gunpla enthusiast joining a team of Breakers, mobile suit pilots who customize Gundams and compete in ranked battles to aim for supremacy!

Will you be the best Gunpla Breaker? Get those mobile suit kits ready and enter the world of Gundam Breaker 4!

Gunplas Come to Life!

Gundam Breaker 4 offers a unique blend of Gunpla assembly simulation and action-packed gameplay, allowing you to customize and build your dream mobile suit before testing it on the battlefield. This game is perfect for enthusiasts who enjoy both the creative and combat aspects of Gunpla.

The game is user-friendly, starting with a Story mode that helps you get acquainted with the gameplay before diving into the Multiplayer mode to showcase your creations globally. The initial levels are designed to be easy, making it accessible for both beginners and veterans.

Gundam Breaker 4 Combat

While the storyline is adequate, it doesn’t feature characters from the original Gundam series, which might disappoint fans who prefer character-driven narratives. However, if you’re focused on mobile suits, Gundam Breaker 4 excels with a vast selection from various Gundam series, including Gundam Wing, Gundam Seed, and Iron-Blooded Orphans. If you have a favorite mobile suit, they probably have it, and if you’re a fan of mobile suits, this may be heaven for you.

The highlight of the game is the customization of your mobile suit. As you progress, you collect parts of varying levels and rarities from defeated enemies, which you can use to enhance or build your mobile suit from scratch. This feature caters to both aesthetic purists and those focused on maximizing stats, allowing for a personalized gameplay experience.

Gundam Breaker 4 Custom

Additionally, you can equip your mobile suit with various weapons and breaker components, and unlock specific EX and special moves to gain an edge in combat. The ability to mix and match moves from different mobile suits adds an extra layer of fun and strategy.

To top it off, you can personalize your mobile suit with custom paint jobs and use the Diorama mode to set up and photograph your Gunplas in unique scenarios, perfect for sharing on social media. Gundam Breaker 4 truly is a dream come true for Gunpla fans, offering a comprehensive and engaging experience without the need to invest in physical kits.

Breaker-ing the Mold

Gundam Breaker 4 offers an accessible and easy-to-pick-up experience, with a simple control map that makes it easy to shoot with ranged weapons, attack with melee, block, and use thrusters. The first chapter is straightforward and easy to clear, with predictable and less powerful enemies that match your current gear.

As you progress to subsequent chapters, there is a noticeable difficulty spike depending on the level of the enemies, but as long as you keep up with your gear level, the game remains manageable on Standard Difficulty for most skill levels.

Gundam Breaker 4 Boss

Each chapter is divided into episodes where you clear waves of enemies, ending each wave by destroying the target mobile suit or fulfilling the mission. Episodes conclude with either an elite target or a Master Grade giant enemy, providing fun battles where you can target specific areas to collect rare parts.

Throughout your experience in Gundam Breaker 4, you collect parts for your collection, currency to purchase complete kits, and tackle non-story missions to gain more experience, increase your Builder level, unlock more features, and improve your score for better rewards.

However, as you progress through the story, the levels start to feel repetitive. While increasing levels, adding more skills, and improving your gear enhance the experience, the gameplay variety remains basic. Combat is the weaker aspect of Gundam Breaker 4, and if you’re looking for a more involved mech simulator like the Armored Core series or older Gundam games, this might not be the game for you. Coupled with a basic story, the game doesn’t offer much for non-Gundam fans once the novelty wears off, making it a hefty purchase for newbies not into the lore.

Gundam Breaker 4 Story

For Gundam fans, Gundam Breaker 4 is a treasure trove of content and collectibles, offering endless combinations to build the ultimate mobile suit Gunpla of your dreams. After completing the story campaign, the multiplayer component provides endless hours of fun, with plenty of Gunpla kits to collect and missions to complete.

Verdict: Wait for it…

One-More-Game-Wait

Gundam Breaker 4 is a treasure for Gundam enthusiasts, offering hours of entertainment as you assemble unique Gunplas without the expense of physical kits. Despite its basic combat and story, the game provides ample content through multiplayer and side missions to complete your collection.

While Gundam Breaker 4 offers a lot of fun, I recommend waiting for a sale if you’re a casual Gundam fan or new to the series. If you’re seeking a more involved mech action simulator like Armored Core, this game might not meet your expectations due to its arcade-like combat, which can become repetitive over time.
