Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Series Races Past $1 Billion in Global Revenue

SEGA President and COO Shuji Utsumi has announced that the Sonic the Hedgehog movie series has surpassed over $1 billion at the global box office.
Produced by SEGA of America and Paramount Pictures, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is now showing in most theaters across Southeast Asia and is coming to the Philippines on January 15.
The first two films, released in February 2020 and April 2022, respectively, have earned a combined $725.2M globally and generated $181M in consumer spending. A Knuckles spinoff series also launched last April on Paramount+, earning a total viewing time of over 11M hours globally in its first 28 days, making it the #1 Kids & Family series ever in terms of hours.
On December 20, 2024, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 premiered theatrically in the United States, receiving an “A” CinemaScore, a franchise-best Certified Fresh 86% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and a franchise-best 96% Verified Hot Popcornmeter score.
In this latest installment, Sonic and his friends travel to Tokyo, where they encounter Shadow, a mysterious new adversary whose powers elevate the series’ speed and scope to unprecedented levels.
