Here’s a guide to help you maximize Lune’s potential as the team’s powerhouse. So strap on, folks, and let’s discover more about unleashing Lune’s untapped potential!

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – Lune’s Stat Build

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 features a familiar lineup of party members with comparable loadouts and abilities. Lune is the designated caster, leveraging her magic-based trinket to manipulate the elemental forces of “chroma,” the world’s core magical energy.

While experimenting with a build centered on Vitality and Defense to create a more durable Lune can be interesting, a support mage role focusing on healing and tanking damage only utilizes a small portion of her skill tree. Lune’s true potential lies in fully capitalizing on the elemental output of her other abilities.

Crit Level: Nice

To maximize Lune’s effectiveness, she is best built as an elemental glass cannon. This approach prioritizes her damage-dealing capabilities by minimizing investments in Vitality and Defense to enhance her Luck stat for critical hit optimization.

Starting with a base Critical Rate of 5%, Lune can reach a formidable 54% Critical Rate at Level 60 with the right loadout and maxed-out Luck. Allocating 30 points to Agility, 20 to Defense, and 15 each to Vitality and Might ensures a well-rounded balance, while her critical damage and attack potential are further amplified through carefully chosen equipment.

Lune’s Loadout

In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, equipment functionality is uniquely tied to optimized stats rather than base attack power. To maximize Lune’s offensive potential, selecting a weapon like Braselim—with an A rating or higher for Luck and a B rating or higher for secondary abilities—is crucial. Additionally, weapons with passive effects, such as granting +1 AP for every consumed Stain, enable Lune to loop her abilities as needed.

At Level 60, Lune’s Critical Rate can reach an impressive 105%, primarily achieved through equipped Pintos at Level 15 or higher. Each Pinto provides at least a 17% boost to Critical Rate, and pairing this with abilities such as Dead Energy—which grants AP for every defeated enemy—further enhances her effectiveness. Starting strong and hitting hard are supported by abilities like First Strike and Energizing Start for high initial AP, while Auto-Rush, Auto-Regen, and Auto-Shell bolster defensive capabilities.

For skills, Lune’s loadout is divided into two sets: healing and attacking. Her support set includes Healing Light and Revitalization, allowing her to heal single targets, the entire team, and revive fallen allies using Rebirth.

Lune leverages Elemental Trick, Mayhem, and Elemental Genesis for offensive output, each requiring only 3–4 AP. This configuration is optimal for dealing maximum damage to all enemies, ensuring efficiency regardless of Stains generated during combat.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s MVP

This is where Lune’s crit-focused build truly shines, establishing her as the MVP of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Her Stain ability is key to this strategy—every time she casts a spell, residual elemental energy is left behind as a “stain.” For instance, casting an ice spell leaves a water stain, which can amplify an opposite spell, such as increasing the damage output of a fire spell.

The foundation of this build lies in utilizing stains to fuel Lune’s ultimate abilities. In terms of offense, she sets the stage with Elemental Trick, a four-hit attack that uses all elemental types (Fire, Air, Earth, and Water). Scoring a critical hit ensures that stains for each element are left behind. Without a critical-focused build, stains are generated randomly and can be used to power abilities like Mayhem for a Stagger Break that penetrates enemy defenses.

Lune’s crowning ability is Elemental Genesis, a potent ultimate requiring all four stains to execute a multi-hit attack with random elemental damage. With her 105% critical chance (under this optimized build), she reliably generates a full stain board 90% of the time, although this can falter if the enemy absorbs the damage.

Lune’s support mode is critical in addressing scenarios where stains are insufficient. Her healing abilities generate a Light Stain, which acts as a wildcard element to complete the stain board for Elemental Genesis. Regardless of the situation, she remains a consistent damage dealer.

Later in the game, characters can surpass the standard 9,999 damage limit using the Painted Power Lumina ability. With most of Lune’s hits landing as critical, she can achieve damage upwards of 20,000 per hit. At 7–8 hits per Elemental Genesis, this amounts to approximately 150,000 total damage, making her an unmatched powerhouse in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Not bad for a pretty face.
