SEGA, Platinum Dunes, and Fifty-Fifty Films have announced that SEGA’s iconic arcade driving video game “OutRun” is getting a movie adaptation for Universal Pictures.

OutRun Movie Adaptation Details

Michael Bay, renowned for his work on the Transformers franchise, is set to direct the adaptation, with Jayson Rothwell (Polar, Arachnid) handling the screenplay. Sydney Sweeney will take on producing responsibilities, while Toru Nakahara (Sonic the Hedgehog series, Knuckles, Golden Axe) will produce for SEGA. Shuji Utsumi, President and COO of SEGA CORPORATION, will oversee the project on behalf of SEGA.

SEGA’s OutRun series, one of the most successful arcade driving games of the 1980s, revolutionized the racing genre by allowing players to experience scenic landscapes while speeding through tracks. Over the years, the franchise has expanded with multiple installments, including home console versions, solidifying its status as a flagship SEGA title.
