Borderlands 4 Gameplay Details
On the vast planet of Kairos, players battle the tyrannical Timekeeper, who has controlled its people for centuries using cybernetic Bolts and his army, The Order. As players explore four unique regions, they’ll meet allies to recruit and enemies to fight, all wielding powerful weapons and abilities.

Borderlands 4 received a dedicated PlayStation State of Play, giving a first look at two of the four new Vault Hunters. Vex the Siren is a powerful Siren who can empower herself or manifest deadly shades to fight alongside her. At the same time, Rafa the Exo-Soldier shines as a former Tediore trooper who wears an experimental exo-suit capable of digistructing an arsenal of weapons.

During the showcase, Vault Hunters Vex and Rafa storm a hidden blacksite in Terminus Range, a harsh, frozen landscape. This gameplay reveal highlights Borderlands 4’s upgraded gear system, setting the stage for the ultimate loot chase, featuring:
- Deadly weapons from across eight new and returning manufacturers, each boasting their own devastating strengths;
- Licensed Parts system that combines the behaviors and abilities from multiple manufacturers into a single weapon;
- Enhancements gear slot to augment weapons based on their manufacturer, rewarding extra firepower with an optimized gear loadout;
- Ordnance, a shared slot for Grenades and Heavy Weapons like rocket launchers, recharges on a cooldown to keep you locked and loaded during especially tough encounters;
- Rep Kit gear adds utility by letting players heal themselves or activate temporary buffs to help turn the tide of an intense battle.

Borderlands 4 simplifies co-op multiplayer with an improved party system, letting friends team up online and stay together across different game modes. Designed for seamless co-op, it features instanced loot, dynamic level scaling, and individual difficulty to keep the experience balanced and fun.
Borderlands 4 will launch on September 12, 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games.
