Nintendo Announces Switch Price Increase in the U.S.

In a nutshell

  • Nintendo is raising prices on the original Switch lineup (base, Lite, OLED) and select accessories due to “market conditions”—a rare move for previous-gen hardware.
  • Certain Switch 2 accessories, amiibo, and the Alarmo will also get price hikes, while Switch 2 consoles, games, and online memberships remain unaffected.
  • No specific amounts were disclosed, but there is potential for further adjustments.

Nintendo has announced that the original Switch family of consoles, which includes the base Switch, Lite, and OLED, is getting a price increase in the US, along with select accessories.

Nintendo Switch Price Increase Details

According to the announcement, the decision was made “based on market conditions,” and it’s generally unusual to see a previous generation console see a price increase.

In addition, certain Switch 2 accessories, amiibo, and the Alarmo will also see price adjustments. However, pricing for the Switch 2 console, its games, and Nintendo Switch Online memberships will remain unchanged for now.

Nintendo has not disclosed the exact price changes for the affected products, but emphasized that future adjustments may be necessary.

The Switch 2 was released back in June at $449.99, retailing with a higher price tag than its predecessor. Analysts believe that this pricing may have already taken into account the tariff situation set by the US for various countries, including China and Vietnam, which are both crucial in Nintendo’s supply chain.
