The Third Edict marks a major milestone for the game, introducing Act 4 and a set of three Interlude mini-acts that replace the previous Cruel difficulty. Players will journey to the Karui archipelago of Ngamakanui, a non-linear region composed of eight islands, each packed with new horrors, bosses, and secrets. Act 4 features 16 new areas, 12 new bosses, and over 100 new monster types.

Alongside the new campaign content, the expansion debuts Path of Exile 2’s first exclusive League: Rise of the Abyssal. Players must fend off fissures teeming with monsters to unlock Abyssal Troves, delve into the Abyssal Depths, and face off against three new bosses and a new Endgame Pinnacle encounter.

Gameplay systems have also received a massive overhaul. The new Support Gem System removes previous restrictions, allowing for deeper build experimentation. Support Gems now level up through the campaign, and rare Lineage Support Gems, 40 in total, can be earned from specific bosses to refine endgame builds further.

Other key updates include:

  • Sprint: All classes can now sprint using the dodge roll button, improving traversal outside combat.
  • Balance & Crafting: Character classes, ascendancies, and crafting systems have been reworked, including new currency items like the Greater Orb of Transmutation.
  • Endgame Maps: 25 new maps with unique bosses and environments, including Rockpools, Cliffside, and Holten.
  • Asynchronous Trade: Players can now purchase items without needing the seller to be online.

To celebrate the launch, Grinding Gear Games is hosting a Free Weekend from August 29, 1 PM PDT to September 1, 1 PM PDT, allowing players to explore the new content without an Early Access key.

Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict is included in the Early Access Supporter Pack, starting at $30, which also grants access to the Justice and Trarthan Executioner Packs.
