Team Cherry has finally announced the September 4 release date of Hollow Knight: Silksong, and, wasting no time with the festivities, confirms that DLC is already in the works.
Hollow Knight: Silksong DLC Plans
According to a Bloomberg report from Jason Schreier, who spoke to co-founders Ari Gibson and William Pellen, Team Cherry has confirmed that Silksong will receive additional content post-release.
“The most interesting thing now is what can we add to it next. We got a plan,” Gibson teased. “Admittedly, some of the plans for that stuff are kind of ambitious as well, but hopefully we can achieve some of it.”

The duo also revealed that the seven-year timeline wasn’t due to delays or mismanagement. Instead, the game simply kept growing. “It was never stuck or anything. It was always progressing,” Gibson said. “We’ve been having fun. This whole thing is just a vehicle for our creativity anyway”.
Originally planned as a smaller expansion for Hollow Knight, Silksong evolved into a full sequel with a world as large, or larger, than the original. The team’s iterative, idea-driven approach led to the addition of multiple towns, a complex quest system, and more elaborate bosses and gameplay mechanics.
Thanks to the financial success of Hollow Knight, which has sold over 15 million copies to date, the team had the freedom to take their time without external pressure. “We’re very lucky in that regard,” Gibson added.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Switch 2, and PC via Steam, GOG, Humble Store, and Microsoft Store on September 4, 2025.
