ASUS TUF Gaming x Hatsune Miku Peripheral Collection

We’ve seen great tech collabs over the years, and the latest one from ASUS and TUF Gaming is something fans of a particular virtual personality may want to complete.

Featuring the TUF Gaming x Hatsune Miku collection, which is a limited-edition lineup that reimagines gaming peripherals through the lens of Japan’s iconic virtual idol. The collection includes three core peripherals: the TUF Gaming H1 Gen II Headset, the TUF Gaming K3 Gen II Keyboard, and the TUF Gaming Mini Wireless Mouse paired with the TUF Gaming P1 Mouse Pad. Each product is draped with Hatsune Miku’s signature turquoise and pink colors, along with design touches that fans will recognize and appreciate.

While each peripheral can function independently, the set truly shines when combined, offering an experience that is both functional and visually appealing.

TUF Gaming H1 Gen II Headset

The TUF Gaming H1 Gen II Hatsune Miku Edition is probably the peripheral in the collection that embodies the character the most, considering that it’s something you can actually imagine her wearing. Draped in a turquoise theme and featuring lighting embedded into the earcups, the combination of colors looks good and clean, while also feeling well-built. Feature-wise, it’s got enough to make it a compelling purchase, although it’s also limited by some design choices that could have made it more versatile.

At its core are 40mm ASUS Essence Drivers that deliver decent sound, whether listening to rock or pop tracks, and even while playing games. Listening to music, the bass and drums are punchy, the vocals are clear and distinct, and even at full volume, there’s almost no distortion. That said, its highest volume setting is not as loud as you would expect, but you can still hear even the minor details, making listening sessions satisfying.

Playing games is equally satisfying, and it gives a pretty good representation of where sounds are coming from, especially with first-person shooters. One interesting feature is the activation of a virtual 7.1 surround sound mode with the simple press of a button. While it makes the audio sound more like it’s coming from a wide space to simulate the effect of sound coming from all around rather than an actual 7.1 setup, the result is not bad and worth a listen.

One thing the TUF Gaming H1 Gen II Hatsune Miku Edition excels at is keeping all controls within arm’s reach, with in-line controls that house volume adjustment, mic mute, lighting adjustments, and the 7.1 virtual surround sound mode. That said, if you haven’t realized it yet, the headset is wired, which would have been preferable if a wireless option were available. Additionally, it is worth noting that the headset utilizes a USB-A connection instead of USB-C or the more conventional 3.5mm jack, but at least it is compatible with both PC and PS5.

When it comes to comfort, the TUF Gaming H1 Gen II Hatsune Miku Edition is a bit of a mixed bag. Smaller heads may experience a slight pinch during long sessions due to the fixed earcups that can’t be adjusted or rotated, as well as the earcups not sealing properly on the top part, resulting in all the pressure concentrated on the bottom. Despite that, the ear cushions are soft, but the material is probably something that would crack or peel after being exposed to our humid weather. However, it is extremely easy to replace them by simply twisting them. A nice touch is the suspension headband, which is pretty comfortable, and the metal band on top that reminds me of those old-school Siberia V2s.

Visually, you can clearly see Hatsune Miku’s influence, with translucent logos on each earcup that glow turquoise. There’s just a hint of pink in the band, but overall, the mix of white with turquoise makes it a really clean pair.

Oh, and there’s also an adjustable boom mic, which sounds decent but nothing to write home about. Personally, I would prefer a mic that can be flipped up or down, but this works.

TUF Gaming K3 Gen II Keyboard

Next up is the TUF Gaming K3 Gen II Hatsune Miku Edition, a compact 97-key peripheral that is a bit louder due to its theme. It is draped in Miku’s signature turquoise color, featuring white keys and several nods to the character.

This mechanical keyboard has several things to take note of:

  • Optical-mechanical switches with n-key rollover and 100% anti-ghosting
  • Silicone gasket mount and dual-layer dampening foam
  • UV-coated dye-sub PBT keycaps with Per-key RGB lighting
  • Detachable top plate

Linears are my preferred switch types, so coming out of the box with RGB reds is welcome. While I would have preferred a deeper and thockier sound, the reds are satisfying enough to hear, especially with the silicone gasket mount minimizing miscellaneous sound. They don’t feel as heavy to press compared to something like the Gateron Black Ink V2s, so typing is a breeze.

Coming from a keyboard with a knob, I sorely missed that while using the TUF Gaming K3 Gen II Hatsune Miku Edition. My workflow often involves opening multiple tabs and programs, where I need to easily shift volumes, so using a knob near the mouse placement is crucial. Losing that here is a big adjustment, and while you can still adjust the volume using the function key with F10 and F11, it isn’t as easy and fast as you would do with a knob.

Even if the frame is made of plastic, this keyboard feels quite weighty and well-built. Having this body requires me to use it with a wrist rest, as it is pretty high, even with the adjustable stands, which stand nearly as tall as a GMMK Pro.

Performance-wise, the TUF Gaming K3 Gen II Hatsune Miku Edition has most of what you may be looking for in a mechanical keyboard. Keycaps and switches are easily replaceable, featuring per-key RGB lighting. As a gaming keyboard, 100% anti-ghosting works as expected during gaming. Putting the keyboard through its paces across multiple titles like Call of Duty and Cyberpunk 2077, it performed well without any hitches. As with ASUS products, Armoury Crate is required to unlock the full potential of the peripheral, which is a software that has its ups and downs.

The included limited-edition keycaps fit the theme well, with a good combination of turquoise, pink, and white. There are special keys (such as Enter, Arrow, and Escape) that have unique prints, adding a more customized look to the keyboard. While I would have preferred an OSA/KSA set of keycaps, Cherry’s are used mainly by default due to their general appeal.

TUF Gaming Mini Wireless Mouse + P1 Mouse Pad

Arguably the best-looking peripheral of the bunch, the TUF Gaming Mini Wireless Mouse Hatsune Miku Edition looks sleek and stylish, and is further enhanced by its Miku-themed colors and design details.

On first use, the mouse felt comfortable and was large enough to fit my long hands without requiring any unnecessary adjustments. The side buttons were perfectly placed so that my thumb fell into them nicely, but coming from a higher-spec gaming mouse, the left and right mouse clicks felt like they had a bit more resistance, resulting in missed double clicks where I would have usually gotten them with no problem.

Despite not having a honeycomb design, the TUF Gaming Mini Wireless Mouse Hatsune Miku Edition is surprisingly light, weighing just 65 grams. Its design is ambidextrous, which is excellent news for our left-handed friends who often get left out. However, the best feature about it is that it has tri-mode connectivity, with USB wired, 2.4GHz RF, and Bluetooth options. With all of the other peripherals being wired, having these wireless options is fantastic, whether used with a dongle or via Bluetooth.

Showing design to detail is the fact that the mouse also acts as the carrying “case” for the dongle, which is something that other mice do not do, as it is one of the first considerations because of how easy it is to misplace it. Along with this, the bottom of the mouse also features a switch that toggles between the three connectivity options, as well as a Bluetooth pairing button, allowing for seamless pairing with up to three devices and an advertised battery life of 134 hours.

As with gaming mice, the TUF Gaming Mini Wireless Mouse Hatsune Miku Edition features two extra programmable buttons and a handy button located just below the scroll wheel, which allows for on-the-fly sensitivity adjustments, perfect for switching between games that require subtle flicks to sweeping motions. The mouse also features 100% PTFE mouse feet, ensuring smooth movement across your preferred mouse pad.

Speaking of mouse pads, the TUF Gaming P1 Mouse Pad features a water-resistant polyester surface that protects against spills, with anti-fray stitching and a non-slip rubber base that keeps it steady. Although it may be a bit more compact than what we’re used to, measuring 360 x 260 mm, it’s both portable and desk-friendly.

Overall, the TUF Gaming x Hatsune Miku Collection is a worthwhile consideration for fans of the Japanese icon, as well as for those seeking an affordable entry point into gaming peripherals. These peripherals are more than serviceable, with the mouse being a standout product compared to the others due to its feature set.
