Octopath Traveler 0 Reportedly Has 100-Hour Story and Expanded Content
In a nutshell
- Octopath Traveler 0 offers a 100-hour story with 30–40% newly written content, evolving from a mobile port into a full standalone console RPG.
- Players create their own protagonist and rebuild the town of Wishvale, with deep customization, town-building, cooking buffs, and strategic 8-character combat.
- Set as a prequel, the game explores themes of revenge and reconstruction, featuring full voice acting and redrawn visuals for a more handcrafted feel.
Octopath Traveler fans can look forward to a new game coming out later this year, and in a recent interview with Famitsu, it seems that Octopath Traveler 0 will be a behemoth of an RPG.
Producer Hiroto Suzuki confirmed that the main story of Octopath Traveler 0 alone will span approximately 100 hours, with nearly 30–40% of the content newly written compared to its predecessor.
Initially conceived as a console port of Champions of the Continent, the project evolved into a standalone title after the team realized that a direct adaptation would feel redundant to longtime fans.

A New Protagonist, A Town to Rebuild, and Strategic Combat
One of the most significant changes in Octopath Traveler 0 is the shift to a player-created protagonist, rather than the typical format for which Octopath Traveler is known. Players can customize their character’s appearance, gestures, and even favorite dishes as it ties into the game’s central theme of “creation,” which also extends to town-building mechanics.
Set in the settlement of Wishvale, players will recruit allies and townsfolk with unique abilities that influence the town’s growth. Cooking mechanics have also been introduced, offering buffs that persist across multiple battles.

Combat in Octopath Traveler 0 features eight-person parties split into front and back rows. Characters recover health and skill points when placed in the rear, encouraging a faster pace and deeper strategy.
Octopath Traveler 0 is a Prequel with a Twist
Narratively, the game serves as a prequel to the original Octopath Traveler, exploring themes of reconstruction, revenge, and the journey home, which is a shift from the previous titles’ focus on departure and exploration.
The game will also feature full voice acting, including the late Atsuko Tanaka reprising her role as Herminia. Character illustrations have been redrawn with a more handcrafted look, further distinguishing the console version from the mobile port.

Octopath Traveler 0 is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox Series, Switch, Switch 2, and PC on December 4, 2025.
