Final Fantasy VII Remake Director Teases Wutai, Rocket Town, and More
In a nutshell
- Wutai, Rocket Town, and space exploration teased for FFVII Remake Part 3.
- New gameplay mechanics promised to keep the finale fresh.
- Official reveal expected in 2026, with no confirmed release date yet.
Square Enix is gearing up for the highly anticipated conclusion to its ambitious Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, and new information was just revealed courtesy of an interview with Bloomberg.
Director Naoki Hamaguchi shared fresh insights into what fans can expect from the third and final installment, hinting at expanded gameplay, iconic locations, and even the possibility of space exploration.

Hamaguchi emphasized that the trilogy is not simply a retelling of the 1997 classic but a bold reimagining that reshapes the original narrative. With Final Fantasy VII Remake (2020) and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (2024) already redefining the saga, the finale aims to push boundaries further.
“We didn’t want the three installments to be a reskinning of the same game over and over again,” Hamaguchi explained, noting that new gameplay systems will be introduced to keep the experience fresh.
Hamaguchi Teases Locations in Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3
Among the teased highlights are Wutai, which will serve as a major hub, and Rocket Town, a fan-favorite location returning. Hamaguchi also hinted at expanded exploration with the Highwind airship, suggesting players may have more freedom to traverse the world.
“It’s one of the main locations. Yuffie’s made a very prominent appearance, stating her case about her homeland. So if Wutai’s not featured, I think the fans are going to yell at me.”

When asked about space travel, he remained coy but acknowledged Rocket Town’s inclusion as a strong clue, saying “this is one of the elements we had to switch around with Rebirth.” Chocobos will also play a role, though in a different way than in Rebirth.
When will we hear about Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3?
The director confirmed that 95% of the development staff from Rebirth has stayed on for the finale, ensuring continuity and polish. While Square Enix has yet to announce an official title or release date, Hamaguchi expressed hope that the reveal will come “not too far in the future,” with industry watchers expecting news sometime in 2026.
