In a nutshell
- Cryo Archive launches March 20 as Marathon’s first end-game zone.
- Features raid-style puzzles, Vault chases, and brutal PvPvE combat.
- Requires Runner Level 25, all factions unlocked, and a 5,000 credit loadout.
Bungie has officially revealed Cryo Archive, the highly anticipated end-game zone for Marathon. Launching on March 20, this pinnacle activity invites Runners to board the derelict UESC Marathon ship and face its frozen halls, deadly puzzles, and contested loot drops.
The Marathon ship, once home to 30,000 colonists bound for Tau Ceti, now drifts abandoned in orbit. Inside, players will explore cryopods, medical bays, and storage wings across six interconnected zones, all linked by a central hub. Players will be asked to survive brutal PvPvE encounters, unlock Vaults filled with rare loot, and master raid-style mechanics under relentless pressure.
What Awaits Inside Marathon’s Cryo Archive
Here’s what players can expect from Cryo Archive:
- Raid-Style Gameplay: Expect layered mechanics, puzzle-solving, and high-stakes extraction gameplay.
- Vault Chases: Seven heavily secured Vaults hide unique loot, including gold-tier weapons and rare materials.
- Security Clearance System: Progress through runs by unlocking ship systems, doors, and exfils with earned clearance levels.
- Weekend-Only Access: Cryo Archive opens every weekend, requiring a Runner Level 25, all six factions unlocked, and a 5,000 credit loadout.
Players who meet the requirements will also receive a one-time Cryo Archive Sponsored Kit, a starter bundle of blue-tier gear to help crews survive their first run.
Contracts, Rewards, and Secrets
Cryo Archive introduces Cryo Contracts, weekly objectives that reward high-rarity items, Vault keys, and Codex unlocks. Completing contracts adds progression to your Codex, which carries over week-to-week, ensuring long-term rewards for dedicated Runners.
Exfils, however, are less reliable than planet-side zones, forcing players to adapt and strategize their escape routes.
