WWE 2K26 Review

The OMG Review
Our review format is not your usual fare and we’ve broken it down into 3 very simple ratings!

“Buy it!” means that the game deserves a place in your collection. Be it day 1 or a slightly delayed purchase, it’s hard to go wrong with this title. In numbers, this is around an 8/10 and above.

“Wait for it…” means that while the game is good, it probably isn’t worth it at its day 1 price point. We suggest you wait for a sale before jumping in. In numbers, this is around a 5 – 7/10.

“Ignore it!” means that the game is not something we’d recommend playing, whether it be now or in the near future. Maybe ever. Let’s not even go to the numbers for this one.

WWE 2K26 is the latest entry in 2K Games’ long-running wrestling franchise, developed by Visual Concepts. Positioned as the most ambitious installment in recent years, this edition shines a spotlight on the highly anticipated return of WWE Hall of Famer CM Punk as its featured superstar.

Packed with new features, WWE 2K26 expands the fan-favorite MyRise mode, allowing players to continue their custom wrestlers’ journeys with fresh storylines and challenges. The game aims to deliver an accessible experience for newcomers while offering deeper content and replayability for longtime fans.

No Button Mashing Here

WWE 2K26 carries the weight of its storied franchise, and for newcomers, stepping into the ring can feel overwhelming. With a wealth of features and systems, the game initially seems daunting. Thankfully, there’s a “Refresher Test” that serves as a comprehensive tutorial, guiding new players and returning fans alike through the fundamentals.

This onboarding spans one to two hours, covering everything from basic strikes and grapples to advanced techniques, culminating in a final exam that tests your mastery. While the lessons can feel repetitive and occasionally tedious, they provide a solid foundation that pays off in the long run. Players can skip certain segments if they become too drawn out, but the option to revisit them later is invaluable when tackling WWE 2K26’s diverse modes.

WWE 2K26 CM Punk 1

The game’s technical depth quickly becomes apparent. Button mashing won’t get you far because controls are precise, and input timing matters. A simple tap versus a hold can completely change a move’s outcome, such as climbing to the middle rope versus the top rope. This attention to detail rewards patience and practice, giving players a true appreciation for the skill behind the sport.

Once the fundamentals click, the payoff is immense. Controlling iconic superstars like Roman Reigns, CM Punk, or Rey Mysterio feels fluid and rewarding, provided you understand their move sets. Wrestlers share a consistent control scheme, but signature moves and finishers demand situational awareness, such as rope dives that require positioning and power slams that require setup in the center of the ring. Stamina and injury management add another layer of realism, as depleted energy or accumulated damage can make executing moves harder and escaping pins more difficult.

Beyond the ring, WWE 2K26 offers plenty of variety. From battling inside the ropes to brawling outside and even introducing weapons, the controls remain intuitive yet demanding. Success hinges on knowing exactly what you’re doing, and the game ensures that every victory feels earned.

WWE 2K26 MyRise

All The Legends In One Place

WWE 2K26 boasts an unprecedented roster of over 400 playable characters, spanning today’s active superstars, legendary icons, and Hall of Famers. It’s the largest lineup in franchise history, despite a lot of them just being variants of some superstars, artificially bloating the roster because their differences are largely cosmetic. Still,

Even then, the selection enables dream matchups like Hulk Hogan vs. Roman Reigns or recreations of classics such as Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. The Rock, or even pitting wrestlers against alternate versions of themselves from different eras.

Match variety is equally expansive. From one-on-one bouts and tag team clashes to Royal Rumble eliminations and the iconic “I Quit” match, nearly every format from WWE programming is represented. For fans, it’s a dream playground of wrestling scenarios brought to life.

WWE 2K26 Mirror Match

Apart from standard matches, WWE 2K26 introduces several modes that expand its depth. The Showcase mode highlights cover star CM Punk, charting his comeback through pivotal matches against rivals like Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns. These interactive recreations allow players to relive defining moments in Punk’s storied career.

For those seeking a more personalized journey, MyRise returns with a narrative-driven campaign. Players create their own custom superstar by shaping appearance, style, and alignment as either face or heel, all while pursuing redemption in the comeback story of “The Archetype.” Progression through challenges earns stat upgrades, ensuring each wrestler evolves with their own unique style and personality.

WWE 2K26 MyFaction

Additional modes cater to different playstyles. The Island offers a fantastical storyline where wrestlers join factions and battle for forbidden powers, while MyFaction introduces a collectible card-based system. Starting with a base deck, players build and strengthen their faction by acquiring new cards, appealing to fans of gacha-style progression. Speaking of gacha, the notorious microtransactions make an expected return here, most evident in this mode, and while it isn’t “required,” you can certainly feel the pull to spend a little extra here and there.

With such a wide scope of features, WWE 2K26 delivers something for every type of wrestling fan. Whether reliving historic rivalries, crafting your own legend, or experimenting with offbeat storylines, the game offers hours of replay value and the most versatile experience the series has ever produced.

Verdict: Buy It!

One-More-Game-Buy-1

WWE 2K26 is a true celebration of wrestling fandom, packed with an impressive list of features, from its massive roster to immersive storylines featuring custom-created superstars. The sheer amount of content can feel overwhelming at first, but it’s a definite strength and provides hours and hours of fun.

With its focus on realism and refined controls, WWE 2K26 asks players to invest time in learning the mechanics before stepping confidently into the ring. That initial effort pays off as newcomers and returning fans alike will find that the extra practice transforms into a rewarding experience, making every match feel authentic and hard-earned.
