Night City Heads to Hollywood
Released in 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 takes place in the dystopian metropolis of Night City, where players assume the role of V, a mercenary caught in a dangerous struggle involving a revolutionary biochip and the digital consciousness of legendary rocker and terrorist Johnny Silverhand. As Silverhand’s personality gradually begins to overwrite V’s mind, the pair are forced to navigate the city’s sprawling criminal underworld and challenge the powerful Arasaka Corporation.
At this stage, Paramount has not announced a director, cast, writer, or release window for the project. The report only confirms that the film is currently in development.
Cyberpunk 2077 – A Franchise With Massive Reach
The adaptation comes on the back of the franchise’s continued commercial success. According to the report, Cyberpunk 2077 has sold more than 40 million copies worldwide, while its expansion, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, has surpassed 15 million copies sold.
The strong performance has cemented Cyberpunk as one of gaming’s biggest modern IPs, making a live-action adaptation a natural next step as Hollywood continues to invest heavily in video game properties.
