AMD Suggests Next-Gen Xbox Could Launch in 2027, Steam Machine Early This Year
In a nutshell
- AMD CEO Lisa Su confirms next-gen Xbox development is progressing well.
- Console will feature an AMD semi-custom SoC and will be supported for a possible 2027 launch.
- The Steam Machine is also set for early 2026, according to the statement.
During AMD’s latest earnings call, CEO Lisa Su made a statement about both Xbox and Valve that would make fans eager for new hardware.
AMD Supporting Next-gen Xbox and Steam Machine
The AMD CEO stated that both the Next-gen Xbox and Steam Machine will use AMD chips and hinted at a possible release window.
“From a product standpoint, Valve is on-track to begin shipping its AMD-powered Steam Machine early this year, and development of Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox featuring an AMD semi-custom SoC is progressing well to support a launch in 2027.”

Steam Machine: Console-Like Power for the Living Room
The Steam Machine is designed as a console-style PC powered by SteamOS, and will feature the following specs:
- CPU: Semi-custom AMD Zen 4 (6 cores / 12 threads)
- GPU: Semi-custom AMD RDNA3
- RAM: 16GB DDR5 system memory
- VRAM: 8GB GDDR6
- Performance: 4K gaming at 60 FPS with FSR upscaling
- Storage: 512GB or 2TB SSD, expandable via microSD
- OS: SteamOS with full PC flexibility
Valve initially said the Steam Machine would launch in early 2026, but given current PC component pricing, fears of a delay might have been allayed by this statement.

Next-gen Xbox: Hybrid Powerhouse
With Microsoft already looking ahead to the next-gen after a lukewarm reception to the Xbox Series, their next console, codenamed Magnus, appears to be a PC Hybrid of sorts that would run the Xbox full-screen experience, similar to what the ROG Xbox Ally does.
The next-generation console will utilize an AMD semi-custom system-on-chip (SoC). However, with PC component prices currently unstable, the exact launch window remains uncertain, though the recent statement may offer a hint at when to expect it.

No exact release dates for both have been officially announced.
