In a nutshell

  • Battle System: Command up to 8 monsters with unique traits and spells
  • Synthesis: Fuse monsters to create stronger offspring with evolving talents
  • New Faces: Slime Balls, Bamboo Badboy, Groovy Grouse debut

Square Enix has announced new information for DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Withered World, which is launching on December 3, 2026, for Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

The game introduces revamped monster battles, deep synthesis mechanics, and over 500 monsters to befriend.

Monster Battles Reimagined

In DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Withered World, players step into the role of monster wranglers, assembling parties of up to four active monsters and four reserves. Wranglers don’t fight directly, instead, they issue commands or set strategies, letting monsters unleash devastating spells, healing abilities, and unique Traits.

A new feature, the Wrangler’s Spirit, activates once per battle with different effects depending on whether you play as Bianca or Nera. Bianca boosts attack and heals HP, while Nera restores MP and raises defense, adding tactical depth to every encounter.

Befriend and Raise Over 500 Monsters

With more than 500 monsters across eight families, players can recruit allies through battle encounters. Using the Show of Force mechanic or post‑battle recruitment chances, monsters join your team with distinct personalities, ranks, and sizes. Large monsters take up two slots but gain extra Traits and actions per turn, while personalities influence growth rates and attribute caps.

Talent Points earned from leveling allow monsters to unlock new abilities or enhance stats, ensuring every party feels unique.

Synthesis: Create Stronger Offspring

The synthesis system lets players combine two monsters (level 10 or higher) to create new offspring. Children inherit Talents from their parents, with maxed‑out Talents evolving into stronger forms. High Plus Values boost base attributes and can even elevate a child’s rank beyond its parents.

Special synthesis patterns unlock exclusive monsters, including combinations that require four parents. Examples include creating a Mitey Oak from a Stump Chump and Bad Egg, or producing rare higher‑rank creatures through unique family pairings.

DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Withered World – New Monsters Enter the World

Alongside returning favorites, DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Withered World introduces brand‑new monsters:

  • Slime Balls — bite‑sized slimes in sour plum, veggie mix, and shrimp tempura flavors
  • Bamboo Badboy — a deceptive bamboo shoot monster from the nature family
  • Groovy Grouse — a rhythm‑driven nature monster that dances to its own beat
