Our review format is not your usual fare and we’ve broken it down into 3 very simple ratings!

“Buy it!” means that the game deserves a place in your collection. Be it day 1 or a slightly delayed purchase, it’s hard to go wrong with this title. In numbers, this is around an 8/10 and above.

“Wait for it…” means that while the game is good, it probably isn’t worth it at its day 1 price point. We suggest you wait for a sale before jumping in. In numbers, this is around a 5 – 7/10.

“Ignore it!” means that the game is not something we’d recommend playing, whether it be now or in the near future. Maybe ever. Let’s not even go to the numbers for this one.

Starsand Island, which entered Early Access last February, is now preparing for its full release. This cozy life simulation game follows the story of a burned‑out youth returning to their childhood hometown in search of a fresh start.

Players are invited to embrace a slower pace of living surrounded by natural wildlife, where they’ll learn to craft, farm, fish, and build meaningful connections with the locals. Through these everyday activities, the journey becomes one of renewal, community, and rediscovery, offering a heartfelt escape into a simpler way of life.

Cozy Island Life

Starsand Island positions itself alongside beloved life sims like Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley, but elevates the experience with fully animated 3D characters and vibrant island visuals. Players return to their hometown, customize their character, and begin their journey from a humble shack.

From there, the island opens up through apprenticeships with local artisans, teaching essential skills such as crafting, farming, fishing, and ranching. These activities form the backbone of daily life, allowing players to produce goods, grow food, and contribute to the island’s economy.

Resource management plays a central role, with stamina tied to food and rest. Inventory space is limited at first, but can be expanded by unlocking new blueprints or discovering treasures during exploration. A real‑time clock tracks each day’s progression, adding rhythm and structure to the cozy island routine.

Crafting serves as the foundation of Starsand Island, enabling players to transform raw materials into tools and equipment that unlock deeper progression. These tools pave the way for expanded activities such as fishing and hunting, eventually leading to adventures in the nearby enchanted forest.

Exploration is flexible, whether on foot or through vehicles ranging from skates and scooters to cars. While the island itself feels intimate, vehicles help reduce travel time and open up more opportunities to interact with residents and tourists. These encounters provide access to new items, quests, and eventually a job board offering daily challenges and rewards.

As players transition from visitors to full‑time residents, relationships become central to the experience. Friendships, romances, and even bonds with pets enrich island life, while land ownership and specialized skills, earned through trading and Starsand Points, the game’s experience system, allow for deeper customization and long‑term growth.

Starsand Island is designed to be approachable, easy to learn, and endlessly cozy, offering a gameplay experience free from pressure or strict objectives. As farms expand and properties grow, players naturally settle into a satisfying rhythm: harvesting, collecting, crafting, completing quests, and nurturing relationships with the locals. This gameplay loop creates a flow state that appeals to fans of the genre, while remaining flexible for those who prefer a more casual pace.

Apart from daily routines, the island offers plenty to discover through quests, tasks, and exploration. Multiplayer adds another layer of charm, allowing players to visit friends’ islands, trade rewards, and share currency. Whether you’re a newcomer or a seasoned cozy‑sim enthusiast, Starsand Island delivers the warmth and community that define the genre, making it a welcoming escape for anyone drawn to the cozy game experience.

Verdict: 8/10 Buy It!
