In a nutshell
- Testing Fallout: Private playtests received poor feedback
- Overhaul: Live‑service features reportedly removed
- Pivot: Smaller‑scale co‑op with story mode now planned
Guerrilla Games’ upcoming Horizon Hunters Gathering, first announced in February as a “tactical co‑op action game,” is reportedly undergoing a significant overhaul.
Horizon Hunters Gathering Overhaul Details
According to a report from Jason Schreier of Bloomberg, the game’s live‑service elements are being stripped out following poor private testing feedback, with development shifting toward a traditional co‑op multiplayer experience with a story mode.

Development Timeline and Staff Changes
While the project has not been canceled, staff were told they have until December 2026 to prove the game’s viability to PlayStation executives.
Reports also suggest that “many” developers assigned to Horizon Hunters Gathering will be moved to other projects under evaluation later this year.

Live‑Service Struggles at PlayStation
The overhaul highlights ongoing turbulence in PlayStation’s live‑service strategy. Since announcing plans for ten live‑service titles in 2022, Sony has faced setbacks including the disastrous launch of Concord in 2024, which was pulled from sale just two weeks after release.
Other projects at Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games were canceled, with Bluepoint closing entirely earlier this year. Exceptions like Helldivers 2 have thrived, while Bungie’s Marathon remains in development.
