GI Joe AAA game in the works from Wizards of the Coast
Hasbro is not content with sticking to its toy empire as it is going all-in on its games division, Wizards of the Coast, to usher in the comeback of the GI Joe franchise via a new AAA game.
Details are quite scarce at the moment, but as spotted by Hisstank, the upcoming game is described as “G.I. Joe AAA 3rd Person Action Adventure Console Game” which might be something that fans of the franchise will want to look out for.
A new Raleigh-based studio is being set up for the project that will create games based on the various Hasbro franchises like Transformers. The official description of the studio and the project can be seen below:
New Raleigh-Durham Studio is a new game development studio in the Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina area led by industry veterans from WB Games and other AAA studios. New Raleigh-Durham Studio is a division of Wizards of the Coast which is part of Hasbro. We are building a new development team with outstanding talent to create our first multi-platform, Action-Adventure video game set in the GI JOE Universe!
Various positions are actually open for hire – from Art Director to even the Lead Game Designer – so you can expect that this is still very early in development so it would probably take some time to hear some updates about this again.
If we were to base it on its previous release, Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance, WotC shows promise despite the somewhat mediocre reception to the game. With the new studio taking in some veteran smarts from ex-WB Games studios, it could have the resources needed to put out a top-notch release.
