Warner Bros. Games have announced that Mortal Kombat 11, the latest entry in the long-running franchise, has just sold over 12 million units worldwide. With these numbers, it’s not hard to imagine that Mortal Kombat 12 is something that fans are very much looking forward to.

When Mortal Kombat launched nearly 30 years ago, I never dreamed it would grow into the franchise it is today with more than 73 million games sold,” said Ed Boon, Creative Director at NetherRealm Studios and Co-Creator of Mortal Kombat. “We have some of the most passionate fans in the world and we appreciate the support they have shown us over the years.”

In comparison, the Mortal Kombat franchise as a whole has sold 73 million units, beating out its closest competitor, Smash Bros. by 8 million units. Tekken comes in at 3rd with 51 million units sold as of April 2021, and Street Fighter has 46 million as of March 31, 2021.

The game, which has added the likes of Rambo into its lineup, is highly praised scoring an 88 Metacritic rating for the PS5 version of Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate.

Mortal Kombat 11 is now available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Switch, and PC.
