Animal Crossing: New Horizons wins Game of the Year from Tokyo Game Show 2020

Tokyo Game Show 2020 has come and gone and with it, a weekend full of game updates and industry news that put a smile to the faces of gamers around the world. A bigger smile can be seen for the fans of the latest game in the series as Animal Crossing: New Horizons wins Game of the Year from Tokyo Game Show.

In a press statement, the Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association said that “Because we were forced to stay home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a slow-life experience in this game in which you can do everything freely became a comfort to people all over the world. Communication with close friends through the game and interaction with other players in events went beyond the bounds of a single game, and the game showed the power of entertainment from Japan, acquiring overwhelming support from many users of all ages, from children to senior citizens, in general voting, and won both the Award for Excellence and the Grand Award with unanimity.

Other titles that received an award for excellence were 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, Death Stranding, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, Nioh 2, Persona 5 Royal, Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, Ring Fit Adventure, and Yakuza: Like a Dragon.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been a global best seller, becoming the second best selling game on the Switch only months after its initial release, beating out the likes of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Its even got celebrities like Danny Trejo and Elijah Wood playing!

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is now available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
