Nintendo has officially discontinued the 3DS
It’s been a good run, but after a little over 75 million units sold in its lifetime, Nintendo has officially discontinued the 3DS.
GamesIndustry.biz reports that a Nintendo spokesperson has confirmed this with them, saying “We can confirm that the manufacturing of the Nintendo 3DS family of systems has ended.” The news is also reflected on the Nintendo official website.
Games for the Nintendo 3DS family will still be available on the eShop and Nintendo.com, including retail stores.
Nintendo has been making a killing with handhelds, as evidenced by the very strong sales brought about by the Switch ever since it launched, even causing worldwide supply shortages. With a new console update reportedly coming in next year, we can only expect more good things to come for the Switch.
