It’s no surprise the Switch is a massive hit, proving that portability is indeed a big sell. How big of a hit? Here’s 55.77 million reasons.
Nintendo recently released their fiscal year earnings report, showing that the Switch sold 21.03 million units over the period of April 1, 2019 up to March 31, 2020, a staggering 24% increase from the previous year, including the Switch Lite.
Considering the disruption brought about by COVID-19? These numbers are mind blowing. So impressive, in fact, that the Switch has now passed the lifetime sales of the SNES, Nintendo 64, GameCube, and Wii U only a few years into its life cycle.

The sales spike can also be attributed to Animal Crossing, with sales exceeding 11.77 Million as of writing, higher than other games like Super Mario Party, Luigi’s Mansion 3, and Splatoon 2.
With a massive lineup for the rest of the year that includes Jump Force, Star Wars Episode I: Racer, multiple EA titles, and even Crysis, the Switch will continue to make waves and may even surpass the Wii’s lifetime sales in the next few years.
Did we mention that they’re rumored to be planning a ton of Mario remakes as well, including Mario Galaxy, Mario 64, and Mario Sunshine?
