Cyberpunk 2077 Braindance sequence could trigger epileptic seizures
The Cyberpunk 2077 review embargo has been lifted, and most of the reviews rate the game as a definite must play, but in all the hype, there is an important thing to remember and this comes by way of a reminder from Game Informer about an epilepsy warning.
Associate Editor Liana Ruppert writes about her experience while playing the game and notes that there are certain light patterns in the game that are similar to what specialists use to trigger seizures. In fact, she says that “During my time with Cyberpunk 2077, I suffered one major seizure and felt several moments where I was close to another one.”
Apart from the setting of Night City that is draped in neon and flashing lights, the game has a feature called “Braindance”, which is basically the player watching a recorded memory of another person and is used for some CSI-like scenes. During this sequence, Ruppert goes on to say that players “will be given a headset that is meant to onset the instance. The headset fits over both eyes and features a rapid onslaught of white and red blinking LEDs, much like the actual device neurologists use in real life to trigger a seizure when they need to trigger one for diagnosis purposes.” Not only that, almost all sequences within the actual Braindance is a possible seizure trigger, which is concerning for some people who have a condition that will want to play the game.
Almost all, if not all, games indeed have trigger warnings, but this is always good for people with conditions to be informed about the real possibility of it actually happening with the game.
Save the date, Cyberpunk 2077 is out on December 10!
