As per GAME Watch (translated by Gematsu), Sony Japan has indeed confirmed the production end of “all PlayStation 4 slim (CUH-2000 series) models except one, and all PlayStation 4 Pro (CUH-7000 series) models in Japan” to make way for the PlayStation 5.

Even with the PlayStation 5 being some sort of a unicorn to majority of the gaming public, Sony seems to be looking to discontinue certain PlayStation 4 models already.

This comes by way of Twitter User Cheesemeister3K, who has spotted and translated a notice from a Japanese retailer stating that the following models will end production and will no longer be restocked: 500GB Glacier White, 1TB Jet Black, 1TB Glacier White, 2TB Jet Black, and PS4 Pro 1TB Glacier.

This is not the first time we are hearing about this, as the PlayStation Direct page for the PlayStation 4 Pro already lists it as “Out of Stock” when previously, it also had an additional note that it would no longer restock in the future, according to various sources. While there are no official statements from Sony regarding this most recent instance or even the one from last month, it would not be a surprise since the priority looks to be a transition into the next-gen console.

It’s been a rough transition to say the least, as stocks of the PS5 are very limited, further exacerbated by scalpers trying to take advantage of the situation. Locally, after a predictably sold out release, no one really knows when the next batch of stocks will come in.
