Just in case you’re a collector too, you may want to look in your stash because you may just have something that’s worth a fortune.

Heritage Auctions, one of the most well known collectible auction sites in the world, have announced that a “Wata 9.6 A+ Sealed [Hangtab, 1 Code, Mid-Production], NES Nintendo 1985 USA copy” of the Super Mario Bros. game has sold for $660,000 (around PHP32 Million), and has smashed previous records by a mile.

What’s special about this copy is the condition it was found in – “This particular copy was produced in late 1986, and it was one of the earliest copies produced that had plastic shrink wrap, rather than sticker seal. By early 1987, Nintendo was producing a version that had another new variation to their original packaging (an additional “code”). Since the production window for this copy and others like it was so short, finding another copy from this same production run in similar condition would be akin to looking for single drop of water in an ocean. Never say never, but there’s a good chance it can’t be done.” shared Heritage Auctions Video Games Director Valarie McLeckie.

Interestingly, this copy of the game was supposed to have been a Christmas Gift that ended up being tucked in a drawer, remaining untouched for 35 years. How lucky was that?
