New Mafia Game Rumored to be in Development, Will be a Prequel
It’s been a while since we’ve heard about Mafia, ever since the definitive edition was released almost 2 years ago. It was a great example of how a proper remake is done with the new technology we have now, and it would definitely be great to see a new entry in the series.
According to a report from Kotaku, a prequel, codenamed “Nero”, is rumored to be in the works and is being developed using Unreal Engine 5, and not the Mafia 3 engine used in the definitive edition.
The game is in the early stages of development, so it would be safe to assume that we won’t be seeing this out anytime soon. Considering the first game happened in the 1930s, a prequel will certainly entail an earlier era.

The report isn’t all good news though, as it also reveals that Hangar 13 founder Haden Blackman is leaving the studio to pursue a new endeavor.
According to an internal email sent, acquired by Venture Beat, Hangar 13 Brighton studio head Nick Baynes will take over, bringing in 30 years of leadership experience.
