PlayStation Acquires Repeat.gg Esports Platform

PlayStation continues its acquisition spree and this time around, the company in the spotlight is esports platform Repeat.gg.

The report comes from GamesIndustry.biz, revealing that Sony is ramping up its esports efforts by acquiring Repeat, which is known for making esports easily accessible to all by hosting leaderboard tournaments and allowing players to join competitions without the need to be online.

Despite the acquisition, Repeat.gg will continue to support all game consoles and platforms outside of PlayStation, similar in terms to the recently concluded Bungie acquisition.

“At PlayStation, our vision for esports has always been about breaking down barriers for gamers to compete at all levels,” says VP of global competitive gaming at Sony Interactive Entertainment Steven Roberts. “Together with the talented Repeat.gg team, we’re excited to explore more ways for players to engage in competitive gaming and expand the breadth of our esports offerings.”

“Repeat.gg was designed to enable new tournament formats that are easy to enter and scalable to millions of players. We’re thrilled to join the PlayStation team and work together to enhance the variety of tournament experiences gamers can enjoy, regardless of their skill level,” says Repeat.gg CEO Aaron Fletcher.

Back in 2021, Sony made a huge push for esports with its acquisition of EVO, the most premiere fighting game tournament in the world.
